At FedCSIS 2026 in Rīga, Sylvia Melzer presented the approach to Interdisciplinary Research Software Engineering (iRSE) that she developed as part of her habilitation thesis during the AI-HuSo plenary session. The combination of perspectives from the humanities and computer science, as well as the question of how both fields can interact in the development of research software and information systems, generated particular interest. Using specific information systems developed in collaboration with the CHAI team, Sylvia demonstrated how the approach can be implemented in practice. The demos allowed attendees to experience the individual approaches firsthand and sparked a lively discussion about the possibilities of interdisciplinary development.
