Logically and Physically Optimized Semantic Web Database Engines (LUPOSDATE)

It is the vision of the Semantic Web to consider the semantic of symbols while processing in order to reduce errors of wrongly mapped data and services in the scenario of integration of data and services. There are many efforts at the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C), in the industry and in research to establish standards for data and query languages and to develop basic technologies for the Semantic Web. The performance of Semantic Web applications is often suboptimal, as not enough research has been done in logical and physical optimization for Semantic Web data and queries. Furthermore, not enough research has been done for the concept of ontologies in correlation with database technologies. The target of this project is the research on logical and physical optimization with regard to Semantic Web data and languages in order to improve the performance of Semantic Web applications. We especially consider the concept of ontologies and its consequences for the optimized evaluation of Semantic Web queries.
